Travel: Stay in a Medieval Lodge at Warwick Castle

I love this bed in the Medieval Lodge at Warwick Castle

Fancy sleeping in this bed!

History lovers, Horrible Histories fans and fellow house fantasy dreamers, if you are looking for somewhere unusual to stay this year with family or friends, look no further, but act quickly, these will fill up fast! From 1st July 2016 you will be able to stay overnight in a medieval lodge at Warwick Castle in the ‘Knight’s Village’. These two-storey lodges look perfect for weekends away with medieval evening entertainment and two day access to the Castle and its attractions.  I think they offer good value too, especially as today I’m sharing a 10% discount for A Residence readers.

A Medieval Style and Setting, with Luxury Features

The medieval sleepover theme is fantastic  – I have had my eye on glamping at Warwick Castle for some time – but I love that the lodges are an adventure, but cosy and luxurious all year round too. These lodges will be set in a tranquil wooded glade in the castle’s 64 acre estate, prices start from £203* per lodge per night including a hearty breakfast in the banqueting hall and two day Castle entry, based on four guests sharing a two-bedroom Woodland Lodge. That’s good value for a themed weekend away at a major tourist attraction.

You can enjoy the medieval style and surroundings, but with plenty of luxury too. All lodges offer fully ensuite facilities, including wet rooms, and come equipped with TV, fridge, coffee maker and central heating. As well as breakfast in the banquet hall – which sounds like an incredible way to start the day – if you don’t fancy self catering you can feast buffet-style in the evening for £18.95 per adult and £9.95 per child.

The Medieval Style Interiors

Warwick Castle opens New Medieval Lodges

Furnished comfortably with bespoke items evoking mediaeval styles

Medieval-style features in the Lodges and banqueting hall, such as lofty ceilings – echoing the Castle’s Great Hall; wooden beams; stonework; and green oak wood-styled exteriors create an enchanting ambience. Spellbinding details including medieval-themed light fittings, door handles and crockery excite the imagination.

Furnished comfortably with bespoke items evoking medieval styles, the Lodges boast private accommodation including a wooden deck, a living and casual dining area and plenty of storage.

Each Woodland Lodge will be themed to an authentic medieval occupation: Archer or Falconer. Warwick Castle – over it’s 1,102 year history peppered with battles and sieges – has provided generations of archers and bowmen with clear sightlines over the town of Warwick and surrounding countryside, whilst birds of prey have graced the Castle over the centuries.

What’s on at Warwick Castle?

Warwick Castle’s captivating daily shows and attractions include birds of prey displays, have-a-go archery, live actor experiences such as The Castle Dungeon and The Princess Tower, Trebuchet Talk, The Great Hall and State Rooms, Kingmaker and Time Tower.

There is always something exciting happening!

Geoff Spooner, General Manager at Warwick Castle, explains: “This is a new chapter for Warwick Castle as from 1 July we’ll offer guests year-round lodge-style accommodation to complement the Castle’s two sumptuous Tower Suites, set within the fourteenth century Caesar’s Tower, and our superb seasonal Medieval Glamping Village.”
He adds: “With the 400th anniversary of the death of Warwickshire’s very own William Shakespeare being marked globally in 2016, Warwick Castle – just twenty minutes from Stratford upon Avon – is the ideal place to stay to discover over 1,100 years of English history. We’re also very proud of our links to Capability Brown, who designed parts of the our grounds in the eighteenth century and whose genius will be celebrated nationwide throughout 2016.”
