4 smoothies I love and an old favourite

This year I promised myself I would be more adventurous with my smoothie making, and try and cram in a more varied mix of fruit and veg. Here are my top 4 smoothie recipes from January, and an old favourite. Plus, I have a smoothie maker, official title ‘Nutritional Extractor’ to giveaway today.

Liquid Porridge

Porridge to go! 4 Smoothie Recipes you need in your life 1 pear   1/2 banana   1/2 tsp cinnamon   1 tbs maple syrup/honey  1/2 cup oats  1 cup almond milk

This morning my daughter told me I shouldn’t be having liquid breakfasts, I do like them though, for days when I go for a morning run, in fact l love this after a run too, with some almond butter for more protein. This one has oats in, so should keep my daughter happy, and is great for when stirring the pan and sitting down to eat a bowl of porridge seems a challenge. It’s also a great pudding substitute. You can even warm it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Purists would soak the oats beforehand for an hour, or prepare the oats and almond milk the night before and whizz up with the fruit in the morning.

Red Velvet

Good stuff heavily disguised as chocolate 4 Smoothie Recipes you need in your life 1/2 avocado, 1/2 beetroot (I buy it vacuum packed without vinegar for convenience), 2 tbs cocoa, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence, 1 cup almond milk, stevia to taste

This is amazing, give it is mainly veg and tastes like chocolate. The original recipe called for raw cacao, which I avoid, you can find out more about that here, but I read cocoa has less calories and and is a decent source of antioxidants and it tastes great in this. Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar without the calories, it grows in rainforests as my daughter and I discovered, while doing her school homework. It brings sweetness without calories or artifical sweetners here, but honey or maple syrup could work well too?  You might need to taste it before you pour, and check if you need more stevia, or cocoa.

Tropical Greens

The one that makes Kale palatable 4 Smoothie Recipes you need in your life 1 handful Kale  2 tsp of cashew butter, or 10 cashews  1/2 banana  1/2 cup mango  1 tbs coconut oil  1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon 1 cup almond milk

I love this one because it makes Kale totally drinkable, it goes so well with the mango and coconut and cashew which give this a sweet, creamy, tropical taste. Cinnamon is the other wonder ingredient. I can now eat porridge and natural yogurt with fruit and cinnamon, instead of sugar or syrup, I am amazed at cinnamon’s natural sweetness.

Raspberry Refresher

The super skinny treat 4 Smoothie Recipes you need in your life 1 cup raspberries (I like to keep a bag in the freezer)  1/4 cucumber  pinch cinnamon  pinch stevia   enough almond milk to cover

Cinnamon comes to the rescue again here, and stevia. This is so refreshing and surprisingly satisfying. Perfect for when you want a sweet treat that is low calorie. And one for good luck….

The Green Goddess

The old favourite Green Smoothie

This is an old favourite, it’s a Deliciously Ella recipe which I have shared the ingredients for here. Most importantly crams lots of spinach in while managing to taste amazing. I keep frozen spinach in the freezer which means, as long as we also have a banana in the house, it is good to go, the rest is usually in the cupboard/fridge.
