The first thing I saw when I looked on my phone this morning was an article about it being Blue Monday. ‘That explains everything!’ I thought. Why I kept pressing snooze, why I couldn’t manage being happy about today, why I felt a sense of impending doom. Blue Monday, the day when we suddenly realise we are stuck on an iceberg between Christmas and payday…
But I also wasn’t in the mood to be dragged down, I mentioned I was reading a book by Anthony Rubbins, and one of the quotes that stuck with me was
Choose the beliefs that empower you.
A few things went wrong this weekend, various member of the family spent chunks not speaking to each other and we forgot something important which feels bad. But this Blue Monday, instead of choosing to focus on things we should have said or done differently, as life is never quite perfect, I am going to focus on some things that happened this weekend that made me love January.
I believe in little being happy rituals…
In an attempt to save money and health, we have reformed our Friday take away habit, two weeks in and we are loving our Friday night pizza making ritual. Turns out it doesn’t take much to start a new habit. Pizza bases and sauce and some bits and pieces meant our fakeaway cost under £10. At some point we will make the dough and the sauce ourselves too, but baby steps are fine.
A classic movie with the kids
We watched Bugsy Malone on Friday, such a classic, what a joy to relive it, the kids were blown away by kids playing adults and the splat guns. This morning we had a deep and meaningful over why Talluh sings “I live til I die”, we managed to cover prohibition, the depression, post war America and gang warfare. Amazing film on so many levels.
My 9 yo just discovered the joys of Lush and it takes me back to the days of Cosmetics to Go, I used to love receiving their amazing packages through the mail. We both came home with some bath bombs and the bathroom has taken on a whole new incredible spa status. That room is high on my list of rooms to makeover in 2016, but for now clouds of fizzing bath bombs will do.
Just enough snow to roll a giant ball around the football pitch and make a fabulous Snowwoman.
Blended Hot Chocolate
I discovered that hot chocolate whizzed in the blender is the best this weekend. So fluffy and frothy and creamy. Lots of this required after our fun in the snow.
Before bed on Sunday night we had a little disco, musical statues and dance performances by the kids.
Hope you had a good weekend, and wishing you well for this week. May Blue Monday pass you by!
