A quick tour round some fabulous home blogs today to find the keys to a happy home office. We all know a tidy desk means a tidy mind, but as January takes hold it is easy to feel overwhelmed and to let it all pile up. Piling is okay, as long as you know where you piled it, I am a piler not a filer and it can be a more economical use of your time than filing.
A quick tidy really does work though. I just cleaned my desk, admittedly into two great big storage boxes I use to keep all my paperwork out of sight, and I finally got round to lighting the scented candle I was gifted at the Interior Blog Awards. Now suddenly I feel motivated once more.
Refresh Your Desk
I saw this desk makeover on Tidy Away Today last year, and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. A lick of vibrant purple paint – what a wonderful way to transform an old desk. And that gold pineapple is so fabulous. I saw a wooden one in a charity shop last week and I am kicking myself for not bringing it home and spray painting it gold!
Give Your Space Identity
I love this desk makeover over At Miss Enchanting Blog, Katie has turned a corner of a room into a space to truly inspire. I love a scented candle on my desk too, and working at home you can get away with it – so indulge your senses! The padded memo board and typography are the perfect way to keep you focussed on your goals as a creative too!
Home Office Makeover on a Budget
Over on Thrifty Home, Becky shows us that a desk makeover doesn’t have to be expensive. Sometimes it is just a case of finding some inexpensive frames for some pictures you already have. Taking breaks when you work at home is important, so why not have a vase permanently in place to fill from your garden or local walks. Becky’s is filled with Hydrangeas – clearly a Summer makeover, but I can see some lovely spring buds out and about. Even a small wall mounted shelf can make all the difference to the space you have to utilise.
Make your office blend in with a family room
Amanda at The Ana Mum Diary shows that a desk can easily become part of a wider scheme in a room. I love this Eames chair, WayfairUK even stock a rocking one now – keeping active is great for protecting your spine!
All the ornaments on the desk complement the room’s scheme. Stylish storage boxes keep everything out of sight when the living room is in use by the rest of the family.
The keys to a happy home office, for me have to be storage boxes, scented candles, a comfy chair, flowers and images to inspire me. All the items in the collage above can be found at Wayfair, just click the links to product types in the post above for inspiration. What are your keys to a happy home office?
