I asked for some festive Through The Keyholes and I am really glad that this one landed in my inbox ready for the night’s just before Christmas. I think tonight it is good to remember that while Christmas is a wonderful, happy time, it can also be a challenging time for those facing obstacles. Today’s Through the Keyhole participant explains how her home helped her to heal and to open her heart once more. A lovely Christmas message.
Opening My Heart
As soon as I found the house, I knew I needed to live there. After a devastating separation, I wanted somewhere to hide away and lick my wounds. I managed to drive past it a couple of times before I found the turning tucked away and then as I drove past the farm into the old saddlery, I just knew.
The development won a Civic Award after it was developed some 10 years or so ago and it was a haven that was close enough to everyone but far enough away for me to breathe. The view at the back of the house looked out over the farm fields and more often than not, we are woken by the cockrel or the cows!
The farm house style doors look fabulous but I am thankful for the draught excluder that keeps out the cold winds, not to mention the spiders! It also sports a fabulous iron key that a fellow blogger sent me quite recently.
The house has seen me stop hiding, to finding new love and opening the house and my heart to new life, beginnings and possibilities. The kitchen is where our family sit to eat, talk and laugh, the kitchen is always where the best parties are and it really is the heart of our home.
My little hideaway home has become my family’s haven and Christmas this year, surrounded by my growing family, I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be.
