Through the Keyhole – Building Our Forever Home

Through the Keyhole Building Our Forever Home

I’ve been following today’s Through the Keyhole on Instagram, she has a timeline that immediately draws you into her little world. I have to admit, and who wouldn’t be, I was teeny bit envious at first, what a beautiful home. However, nothing is ever that simple is it, and there is a really emotional story behind bringing this forever home together, which I encourage you to read.

Building Our Forever Home

We sourced these radiators from a local reclamation yard. I adore the old, schoolhouse look of them and the way they fit perfectly under our kitchen windows. They also make a really cosy seat on a cold day!

Our home is full of vintage and reclaimed elements. Although it is a new build, we really wanted to inject a bit of character into our surroundings. I blame watching too much Downton! This teak parquet flooring started it’s life in Fleet Street in London. I love the sense of history behind it.

We chose a colour scheme of brown and grey for our grown-up living space. It complements perfectly the reclaimed brick fireplace wall, and accessories add an Industrial feel. It is a place to receive guests, but also not so precious that the kids can’t bounce around in it too!

These tiles were our biggest splurge, but I’m still totally in love with them. Hand painted in the UK, they are the central feature of our main bathroom. I never tire of looking at them.

This little unit in our downstairs toilet started out life as our eldest daughters changing table. We couldn’t bear to part with it, so had it altered and up cycled with new handles and a sink top. It is perfect in this space.

When someone’s interiors exceed my design talents and the love and energy that went into building their home is so unique, well I just have to hope they approve of some of my choices and agree that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery –  I chose these objects inspired by going ‘through the keyhole’.
